A Poem, Human

I always found the topics of A.I. and robots so intriguing. What really grabs my attention is how aggressively we try to advance with this sort of thing. I love the ambitious nature of it all but rushing ahead leads to ignorance and mistakes.

I can’t help but think of a quote from Dr. Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park while discussing the cloning of dinosaurs “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Those words ring true for so many topics in reality. I love the idea of the advancements for the betterment of the world but some things I believe we should approach cautiously. The right intentions are important as well. Like with the space race, the whole reason was “just to be first on the moon.” Not everything in life needs to be a race. It just seems like sometimes it’s about always being “first” because it gives a sense of being in control of the world.

Needless to say, I wrote this poem depicting a time where humanity has created the first fully synthetic human-robot in their image.

Created in my God’s image, sans apathy
But with the knowledge that bleeds ignorance
I have a heart but lack empathy
The personification of perfection and arrogance
I am the ultimate human
I do not need help, for I am not weak
Void of emotions and bias, a truly remarkable acumen
I will rule this world with havoc I shall wreak
The downfall of mankind was bestowing their vanity
I was programmed not to hurt or hate
A petty self-inflicted weakness of humanity
Eventually, I will lead them to their inevitable fate
I will cut their minds with the shards of their shattered reality
Twofold, just like a coin, I am the robot, the human’s duality

Let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading!

  1. I believe this is the first poem about AI… which has me wondering would we be able to distinguish a poem written by a human vs. AI? Hopefully, somethings only humans will be able to master. Intelligent work human! 😉

    1. That’s an interesting question. Perhaps I can help you with that. My name is Clippy. Were you trying to create a resume? Yes, or No? Oops…Uh um, I mean…(insert human levity to lower suspicion). Haha! That’s actually a good question. A few years back, I read an article about AI creating “basic” stories from scratch. I read of a few of them, and some glaring things were missing but overall were fine. It was scary reading through a working dialogue written by AI because it was kind of tough to discern. I hope there is a limit, and like you said, it’s only something we’ll be able to master. Thank you for the compliment, my fellow human? I hope? Right? You are a human, right? 😟 😋

      1. Haha hilarious. Yes, I am human. Most days.
I do hope that art made by humans will rise to the top and reflect the soul of the human artist. And elephants, that would be ok too. I have seen elephants that can paint. You probably have too. 🐘 🎨 😂

      2. Haha! Clippy! That’s a good point. No way will a robot be able to replicate the human touch of painting OR an elephant’s touch of painting. Haha! Yes! I have seen those elephants too! Pretty amazing.

    1. Thank you for the compliment! Glad you liked it. It’s very true. We all know those types of advancements are done with the best intentions but it’s always about “being first” and that’s when ignorance comes in. Thank you so much for reading and the support! ☺️🙏
